RMS World 2020 - Business Operations and Technology Workshop Wrap Up
October 12-23, 2020
We want to take a moment to thank each of you for choosing to participate in our first virtual event! While it isn't what we would have chosen, as Jen likes to say in some of her presentations, conflict leads to creativity, and this year's event was a great example. We learned a lot, and have plans to incorporate things from this year into future events.
Some reflections on RMS World 2020...
On the format...
The virtual format allowed a much broader set of staff to attend, ranging from everyday users who don't typically have professional development funds, to our colleagues on the ResLife side of things who aren't usually involved in setting up items in Mercury, but would love to be able to use Mercury more. We love seeing everyone in person (and intend to have on-site events in the future), but we plan to add some more virtual events to our line-up. Stay tuned!
On the attendees...
We saw a 13% increase in the number of sites participating (including several who have never previously attended), but even more impressive, we saw a 135% increase (yes, you read that right!) in the number of individual attendees. We logged a collective 132,483 person minutes of learning over the two weeks of the event. Additionally, attendees could attend all sessions, and 35 people did! That's dedication.
On distractions...
It's pretty clear from the survey results that distractions come from both our coworkers in the office interrupting us and our coworkers at home vying for our attention. We all need a cozy closet to hide in for a distraction-free experience!
On socializing in a remote world...
While we can't all get together for karaoke at a nearby bar, we did get feedback from nearly two-thirds of attendees that building relationships and having time to be social is important. The User Execs are taking this to heart and plan to host several virtual socials over the next few months, starting with Ugly Sweater Bingo on December 10 at 1230pm Eastern (US).
On Mercury 4...
"I thought Mercury 3 had everything I needed but then Mercury 4 is like, "Hold my beer." - Josh N, UNWSP
